Larson Votes Against Bill to Endanger Coastlines, Ransack Public Lands, and Increase Gas Prices

January 27, 2023

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against H.R. 21, the “Strategic Production Response Act,” which would block the federal government from releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) unless it also expands oil and gas drilling on federal lands and waters.

“People are struggling to afford rising prices, and this is the Republicans’ attempt to do the bidding of their wealthy donors and leave middle-and-low-income Americans behind,” said Larson. “Last year, President Biden successfully used the SPR to lower prices at the pump and provide relief to American families. Now, Republicans want to take away this effective strategy, which will only result in higher gas prices for Americans. I voted against this legislation because I am committed to lowering costs at the gas pump, grocery store, and doctor’s office and will continue to fight for that in Congress without sacrificing our public lands to do so.”
