Larson Statement on Trump’s Call to Slash Medicare and Social Security

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Donald Trump called for cutting Social Security and Medicare on CNBC’s Squawk Box. 

“Donald Trump is trying to have it both ways, telling seniors he supports them on one hand, and then calling for cuts to their earned benefits on the other,” said Larson. “In last week’s State of the Union, President Biden made it clear: when it comes to Social Security, Republicans will cut benefits and give their wealthy friends tax breaks. Democrats will strengthen benefits by making the wealthy pay their fair share. Social Security is a sacred trust! United with President Biden, we will reject these calls to slash hard-working Americans’ earned benefits and are ready to act to strengthen Social Security for the first time in more than 50 years for the 70 million Americans who rely on it.”
