Larson Statement on Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi

November 6, 2025

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s retirement announcement.

“Nancy Pelosi is a historic leader for the House of Representatives and our entire country,” said Larson. “It was an honor for me to work alongside her and witness her strategic and humane policies that shaped a nation and helped the American people. I was proud to be part of her team from the start, to elect her as Whip, Democratic Leader, and ultimately see Nancy become the first woman Speaker of the House. Speaker Pelosi will always be remembered for leading the fight to pass the Affordable Care Act – extending coverage to 50 million Americans and finally cementing access to health care as a right, not merely a privilege for the wealthy few, in the United States. Her legacy is among the most consequential for middle-class families since FDR’s New Deal and LBJ’s Great Society. Nancy’s dedication to the people, her unbounded energy, and persistent pursuit of justice will be greatly missed in the halls of Congress. Of course, she will always continue to be a critical voice for America, as she engages Democrats and all fellow citizens to defeat Donald Trump’s extremist agenda. I have nothing but pride and admiration for this gifted leader whom I not only have the privilege to serve with as colleagues, but to know as a friend as well. I wish her, her husband Paul, and the entire Pelosi family, all the best."
