Larson Statement on Senate Confirmation of Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano

May 6, 2025

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Senate Republicans voted to confirm self-declared ‘DOGE person,’ Frank Bisignano, as Commissioner of Social Security.

“Frank Bisignano has called himself a ‘DOGE person’ and reportedly worked behind the scenes to install ‘DOGE’ workers at Social Security,” said Larson. “On Donald Trump, Elon Musk and ‘DOGE’s’ watch, thousands of workers have been cut, wait times are skyrocketing, the website is crashing, and field and hearing offices are being closed. This ‘slash-and-burn' mission to gut Social Security is bound to continue under Commissioner Bisignano. This is unacceptable. We will continue to speak out and push back against these devastating cuts, and work to reinstate workers at the Social Security Administration so they can continue to serve beneficiaries. The American people deserve the truth from their government, and they deserve someone who will fight to protect Social Security, not cut it. Democrats stand united against these cuts and are committed to not only protecting Americans’ hard-earned benefits but enhancing them for everyone for the first time in more than 50 years.”
