Larson Statement on Republicans Refusal to Order Release of Trump's Tax Returns

March 28, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Ways and Means Republicans blocked Rep. Bill Pascrell's (NJ-09) Resolution of Inquiry, in the Ways and Means Committee. This measure would require the Department of Treasury to release President Trump's tax returns over the last ten years.

"The decision by Ways and Means Republicans to block this Resolution of Inquiry is unacceptable. Since President Nixon was forced to release his tax returns in 1974 through a Resolution of Inquiry, every other President has released their tax returns. As a Committee and a co-equal branch of government, we must be united or as my Grandfather Nolan would say: Trust everyone, but cut the cards. In this case we may not only need to cut the cards, we may need a re-shuffle and a new deal," said Larson.
