Larson Statement on Release of AmeriCorps Funds

August 29, 2025

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Trump Administration agreed to fully release $184 million in AmeriCorps funding they illegally withheld. In April, Rep. Larson led the Connecticut Congressional delegation to demand President Trump reverse ‘DOGE’ cuts at AmeriCorps, and Attorney General William Tong led a multi-state lawsuit to secure the release of all funds.

“After the Trump Administration dismissed AmeriCorps volunteers across the country and Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ moved to dismantle the agency entirely, I heard from constituents who saw their service cut short and programs at risk of termination,” said Larson. “I led my colleagues to call on President Trump to reverse these cuts and joined with Attorney General Tong to take this case to court. From disaster recovery efforts to homebound senior services, AmeriCorps volunteers serve our communities each and every day – and we are better off for it. We know that Trump and his ‘DOGE’ will try to attack AmeriCorps again, and we stand ready to defend these programs – and win.”

When the Trump Administration suddenly dismissed all student volunteers with the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and announced plans for mass layoffs at AmeriCorps at the direction of Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE,’ Rep. Larson and the entire Connecticut Congressional delegation spoke out and called for these cuts to be reversed. As of the 2024 program year, AmeriCorps engaged 2,255 members and volunteers across 253 service locations throughout Connecticut, contributing to a total investment of $12.4 million in the state.
