Larson Statement on President Trump’s First Day in Office

January 21, 2025

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after President Donald Trump issued a series of divisive executive orders on his first day in office, including pardoning violent offenders who brutally assaulted police officers during the January 6th insurrection.

“President Trump’s divisive and legally dubious actions do nothing to lower the cost of living,” said Larson. “These executive orders will raise prescription drug costs, allow for dangerous discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans, and disrespect the work of our brave law enforcement officers. The American people are looking at Washington to work together to deliver for them, and I will work with anyone to lower costs, create new jobs, and strengthen Social Security. I will not stand by and let this President abuse his power to attack Americans’ constitutional rights and raise prices so billionaires can get another tax break.

“When a mob of violent insurrectionists attacked the Capitol to try to overturn a free and fair election, five police officers died and more than 140 were injured defending our democracy,” Larson continued. “These dangerous pardons are wide-reaching, including rioters who brutally assaulted police officers, and the leaders of white supremacist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, many of whom have shown no remorse for their actions. No matter how hard Donald Trump tries to erase history, the American people will never forget what we saw on January 6th, and his legacy will forever be tarnished.”
