Larson Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

February 7, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released this statement following President Biden’s State of the Union address.

“President Biden had a conversation with the American people tonight, reflecting on what has been accomplished that directly impacts their lives,” said Larson. “At the forefront of this conversation was the President, who has called Social Security a “sacred trust” and who renewed his commitment to protecting the 66 million Social Security recipients. Congress should not only protect the program, but we must do what we have not done in more than 50 years- enhance it.

“Together, President Biden and Democrats have delivered for the American people, resulting in the lowest unemployment rate in over 50 years, capping insulin at $35 per month for Medicare beneficiaries, a record decrease in the national debt, and creating a manufacturing boom in clean energy, semi-conductors, and infrastructure. The work continues as we strive to make sure we deliver lower costs to families and ensure that more than a conversation, they have what they need to thrive,” Larson continued.
