Larson Statement on Military Action Against Iran
East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the President’s military action against Iran.
“Matters of war come with serious consequences, and there is a reason why under the Constitution, a vote and consultation with Congress is required for these types of military operations,” said Larson. “President Trump believes in neither and purposely circumvented the Constitution after being upstaged by Prime Minister Netanyahu. In debating if and when he would participate in an attack on Iran, the President simply ignored Congress and the Constitution to demonstrate that he has the sole power to launch an attack, another example of his ‘narcissistic nihilism.’ I support and stand behind our troops who salute and follow orders and always deserve our support and prayers. I am glad there were no American casualties from last night’s strikes. Iran should not have nuclear weapons, and the United States of America, Israel, and the world should be protected from that dangerous prospect, but it still needs to come before Congress for a vote. Our support for the people of Israel and their security remains unwavering. We cannot afford to slip into another costly war in the Middle East without a strategy or explanation to Congress or the American people by the President and our military leaders.”
