Larson Statement on Mifepristone Ruling

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) responded to a federal court ruling banning mifepristone, a common abortion medication used nationwide that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). 

“This ruling is dangerous, misguided, and goes against science,” said Larson. “For over twenty years, this FDA-approved medication has proven to be safe and effective for reproductive health care. Now, as Republicans fight to outlaw safe and legal abortion, a handpicked conservative judge stands to bar doctors from providing reproductive care and restrict women’s freedom across the entire country, including Connecticut.  

“I join my colleagues in Congress opposing this ruling because it is another step in Republicans’ war on women and threatens every FDA-approved drug on the market. Congress has spent four decades laying down requirements to ensure that the FDA is the gold standard for determining the efficacy and safety of drug supply in the United States. This ruling upends that bipartisan work in the name of a radical, ideological cause not based in science or the law,” Larson continued.
