Larson Statement on January Job Creation
WASHINGTON – Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 243,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent. This marks the 23rd consecutive month of private sector job growth: "Today's job numbers are great news that show that despite the obstruction of Republicans in Congress, the actions we took with President Obama to spur economic recovery are working. But the continued high level of unemployment underscores the need for more action to promote growth and rebuild our economy. Too many Americans have been left in the dark abyss of uncertainty by the slow recovery and the indifference of Republicans in Congress. "We should be working to re-ignite the American Dream by investing in those things that have historically made our economy strong - small businesses, entrepreneurs and a thriving middle class. Instead, while the middle class is suffering, House Republicans are focused on defeating President Obama and pushing their extreme agenda, attacking Medicare and Social Security while defending tax breaks for their special interest friends. "We can't wait another year to do what needs to be done. We've got a lot of work to do. And we need to get to it. The American people deserve no less." # # # |
