Larson Statement on January 6th Committee Conclusion
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released this statement following the House January 6th Committee’s release of the executive summary to their final report and vote to refer four criminal charges for former President Donald Trump to the Justice Department.
“On January 6, 2021, our democracy came perilously close to being overturned by insurrectionists committed to stopping the peaceful transfer of power,” said Larson. “I will never forget seeing the crowds pushing through police lines, the Capitol surrounded by barbed wire fences, and the loss and trauma of our Capitol Police officers. Since then, the ‘Big Lie’ regarding the 2020 election has continued and threatened future peaceful transfers of power.
“The executive summary details a multi-part plan to overturn a free and fair election, stop the peaceful transfer of power our country is known for, and former President Trump’s role in the events leading up to and on January 6th.
“I commend the January 6th Committee for its painstaking, valiant, and nonpartisan efforts to get to the bottom of what happened on that terrible day. In our democracy, no one is above the law. Chair Bennie Thompson and Vice-Chair Liz Cheney have set an example of true patriotism by putting country before party,” Larson continued.
