Larson Statement on H.R. 82 and the Path Forward on Social Security
East Hartford, CT - Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on H.R. 82, which passed the Senate last week, and the path forward on Social Security.
“Thanks to the tireless work of advocates from across the country, our public servants, including teachers, firefighters, and police officers, are finally on track to receive the benefits they have earned and deserve,” said Larson. “I want to commend the countless labor leaders and public servants for their work and advocacy to correct these unjust provisions, especially the National WEP/GPO Repeal Task Force, led by my dear friend and constituent Bette Marafino.”
“Now we must all roll up our sleeves and work together to prevent automatic benefit cuts set to occur in 2034 and strengthen the program for years to come, especially for the 35 million Americans who rely on their earned benefits for the majority of their income,” Larson continued. “Democrats have a plan to extend Social Security’s solvency, cut taxes for seniors, and enhance benefits by making sure that everyone, including the most wealthy, pay their fair share into the system. Let’s build on this hard-fought win for our public servants by enhancing Social Security for all beneficiaries for the first time in more than 50 years.”
