Larson Statement on GOP Blocking Amendment to Release Trump's Tax Returns
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Ways and Means Committee Republicans blocked an amendment to review President Trump’s tax returns:
“It is outrageous that my Republican colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee are blocking the American public’s right to know what is in President Trump’s tax returns,” said Larson. “The American people should have the opportunity to know what their leader’s business interests are and whether there are potential conflicts. I will continue to press this issue, so the American public can know the whole truth.”
The Ways and Means Committee met today to approve the Authorization and Oversight plan for the 115th Congress. Ranking Member Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) introduced a Democratic amendment to reaffirm the Committee’s authority under law to request copies of the President’s federal tax returns. Rep. Larson joined with his colleagues in voting in favor of the amendment. The vote failed along party lines.
