Larson Statement on the Death of ISIS Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi:

"Yesterday's announcement of the death of al-Baghdadi was a landmark moment in the allied campaign against ISIS. I commend the Special Operations forces, intelligence community, President Trump, and all who worked to make this raid successful. This was a dangerous and complex mission and I am grateful to everyone who made this possible.

"However, al-Baghdadi's ideology fueling the radicalization and recruitment of foreign fighters still remains a major threat to our national security – one that the United States cannot tackle alone. Our successes against ISIS were possible because of the close coordination with our coalition partners. We must not undermine those alliances as the fight continues."
