Larson Statement on Confirmation of Martin O'Malley as Commissioner of the Social Security Administration

December 18, 2023

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (D-CT) released this statement after the Senate voted to confirm Martin O’Malley, former Governor of Maryland and Mayor of Baltimore, as Commissioner of the Social Security Administration.

“I congratulate Commissioner O’Malley and look forward to working with him as he leads the Social Security Administration to serve current and future beneficiaries,” said Larson. “Nearly 70 million seniors, veterans, and children rely on Social Security and ensuring that their needs are met is my number one concern.  Commissioner O’Malley has the vision to put beneficiaries first. In turn, Congress must do its job to fully fund the agency. I look forward to working with Commissioner O’Malley to ensure the Social Security Administration has the resources to serve the American people and to protect and expand Social Security benefits for the first time in over 50 years.”
