Larson Statement on Bipartisan Interim Relief Package

April 21, 2020

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the bipartisan, bicameral interim agreement to allocate additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), hospitals, and testing.

"The interim relief package that I will be voting on this week is a much-needed, but it's only a small step forward. Our small businesses and hospitals will need more help as they continue to combat this pandemic. Additionally, I am deeply disappointed that funding for state and local governments was left out of this agreement, even though their revenues and budgets have been decimated. We need to do better, we must do better. We're in a fight and there is a path forward that we must follow.

"This pandemic is first and foremost a health crisis, that has caused an economic crisis. Congress must continue its work to address the nation's health and economic security, which are inextricably linked. That includes testing, tracking, treatment, vaccine development, and continued economic relief for families and small businesses. Addressing this pandemic is the fundamental and moral imperative of our time."
