Larson Statement on the 2025 Social Security Trustees Report

June 18, 2025

East Hartford, CT - Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the 2025 Social Security Trustees Report, which projects the combined Social Security Trust Funds will remain solvent until 2034, one year earlier than last year’s report.

“Today’s Trustees Report clearly shows the urgent need to act to enhance Social Security for everyone for the first time in more than 50 years,” said Larson. “President Trump and Elon Musk’s false claims and cuts at the Social Security Administration have only hurt the public’s confidence in the program when we should be working together to ensure the more than 70 million Americans’ benefits are protected and expanded. Seniors, veterans, and disabled workers rely on their earned benefits to make ends meet, and they are counting on Congress to do their job. While the Trump Administration and House Republicans continue their efforts to undermine Social Security and push the program toward privatization, Democrats have a plan to not just protect but expand Social Security. We can enhance Social Security and stop taxing benefits by ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share into the program just like everyone else. It is time to act.”
