Larson Statement on the 13th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement marking the 13th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law:
“The fight to make the Affordable Care Act law is a proud moment for the country and one of the great accomplishments of the United States Congress. Today, we celebrate thirteen years of affordable health care access for millions of Americans,” said Larson. “Enacting the ACA made it possible for those with pre-existing conditions to be covered, Americans to receive free preventative care and wellness checks through their insurance, and millions of uninsured Americans now have coverage. It was transformational then and still provides affordable coverage today.
“Republicans have tried for years to dismantle the ACA and continue to oppose efforts to lower health care and prescription drug costs. Democrats passed legislation last year to lower health care costs, and we will keep up the fight, so no one must choose between paying their bills and their health,” Larson continued.
Rep. Larson served as Chairman of the Democratic Caucus during the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. Because of the ACA, our nation has the highest number of insured Americans in its history, with 95.3% of Connecticut’s First District covered.
