Larson Slams President Trump’s Federal Funding ‘Freeze’

January 28, 2025

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined members of the Connecticut Congressional Delegation, Governor Ned Lamont, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Attorney General William Tong, and Comptroller Sean Scanlon to call out President Trump’s freeze on federal funding and its impact on Connecticut families. Connecticut and a coalition of states are suing in federal court to block this order, which has been temporarily halted by a federal judge.

“Let me ask you this. Do you think Elon Musk or Donald Trump will miss an hour, a moment of sleep tonight about what they’ve just done?” asked Larson. “The calls we’ve received today from everyday people – mothers concerned about child care, students concerned about their loans, people afraid they’re not going be able to make their housing payment. These are real people. These are Americans! This Attorney General, this Governor, and our colleagues in Congress are going stand up and fight every single inch of the way because we are for the American people and the citizens of the state of Connecticut.”

“First and foremost, how fortunate is that state of Connecticut to have Rosa DeLauro in the position that she’s been in and how she’s leading the nation.

“We’re here because we’re proud to stand with a Governor and an Attorney General and Constitutional Officers who recognize what this is. Let me ask you this. Do you think Elon Musk or Donald Trump will miss an hour, a moment of sleep tonight about what they’ve just done?

“The calls we’ve received today from everyday people – mothers concerned about child care, students concerned about their loans, people afraid they’re not going be able to make their housing payment. These are real people. These are Americans!

“And this billionaire class that thinks that they can just throw out these ideas from someone like Elon Musk who went through no Senate approval to be in his position, who has no accountability, other than he’s the wealthiest man in the world. Well, guess what, this Attorney General, this Governor, and our colleagues in Congress are going stand up and fight every single inch of the way because we are for the American people and the citizens of the state of Connecticut. Thank you!”
