Larson Secures Critical Priorities for First District in Appropriations Package
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after voting for the two Fiscal Year 2020 appropriation packages.
"I was proud to vote for the bipartisan, bicameral appropriations bills today funding the federal government through the rest of the fiscal year. Today's appropriations bills provides funding for top priorities in the First District, from continuing to strengthen our manufacturing sector to funding critical research programs National Institute of Health (NIH), and tax relief for volunteer first responders.
"While this legislation provided critical funding for many programs important to Americans, it wasn't perfect. I was disappointed by the inclusion of funding for the President's needless border wall and hope we address this in the new year."
Top Priorities for the First District:
- $1.5 million for crumbling foundations research
- $1.5 billion to address the opioid epidemic
- $25 million for gun violence research at the CDC and NIH
- Larson's bill to increase access to manual wheelchair equipment
- Larson's bill to ensure that benefits to volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel are not taxed were included in the package
- Urgently-needed Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico and the territories.
- Full-year funding for our national security programs that support hundreds of small to large manufacturers across our state were also approved.
