Larson: Republican Shutdown Games are Failing Our Families and Seniors
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the House defeated Speaker Johnson’s partisan continuing resolution that would make it harder for Americans to vote and fails to include needed funding for the Social Security Administration.
“There are now less than two weeks before a government shutdown, but Republicans are still refusing to work with Democrats in a bipartisan way to keep government open,” said Larson. “Instead, they put forward a partisan bill they did not even have the votes for that would make it harder for Americans to vote and increase wait times for our nation’s nearly 70 million Social Security beneficiaries. It is time to get serious and work with Democrats on a continuing resolution that will prevent a devastating government shutdown and ensure our constituents have access to the services they rely on. I commend Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro for her leadership on the Appropriations Committee and continued good-faith efforts to keep government open for the American people.”
