Larson Opposes Republican Bills That Endanger Our Environment and Hike Energy Costs

March 22, 2024

Washington, D.C. - This week, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against several Republican bills that would roll back efforts to combat climate change, jeopardize clean energy jobs, and raise costs for American families.

“This week, I voted against six anti-environment bills because they would endanger the public health of our communities, undo the progress we’ve made to tackle climate change, and raise prices for American families,” said Larson. “This includes a bill that would repeal the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, a critical program Democrats created in the last Congress modeled after our state’s Connecticut Green Bank, to create new jobs and unleash the power of American-made clean energy. Repealing this program would reverse much of the progress we’ve made to take on climate change, shut down critical clean energy projects, and put hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work. While Republicans fail to address energy costs and protect our environment, Democrats are focused on creating good-paying jobs and keeping us on a path to a clean energy future.”

Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest investment in our nation’s history to combat climate change. Rep. Larson worked with his colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to expand green energy deployment with new, targeted incentives including the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and Larson’s own legislation to support Clean Hydrogen, a critical industry for Connecticut’s manufacturing economy.
