Larson Opposes Misguided Republican Immigration Bill
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against Republican legislation, H.R. 2, which embraces former President Trump’s failed, illegal, and immoral border policies, effectively destroying the asylum system, criminalizing visa overstays, deporting unaccompanied children, and allowing for children to be jailed indefinitely.
“We need comprehensive immigration reform, not endless political chess using immigrant children as pawns in a game,” said Larson. “We need reform that should have been passed years ago, but Republicans have continued to block legislation because they prefer the political battle of pitting one group against another. At a time when our employment rate is so low, if every person without a job were to get one, we still couldn’t fill all the jobs available. The issues facing our nation’s immigration system need to be addressed, from border security to family reunification. Instead, Republicans have put forward a misguided bill to demonize immigrants while costing the American people $6.1 billion and jailing children indefinitely.”
