Larson: No War in Iran

June 21, 2019

Larson is drafting a resolution to prevent escalation

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01), commended the stance of Rep. Max Rose (NY-11), an Army Veteran who served in Afghanistan, who has echoed Larson's call to not go to war in Iran.

"We cannot let John Bolton lead us into another useless war. Bolton and the Administration have no authority to start another senseless war with no strategy or plan of action. Congress is the only branch of government that has the constitutional authority to authorize this type of military action. Just this week the House repealed the 2001 Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) against Al Qaeda. Bolton has been wanting to go to war with Iran, no matter the cost and we can not let this happen. I am working with Democrats to draft a resolution to prevent this from escalating. We can not let ourselves get into another Iraq and Afghanistan, too many American and civilian lives have already been lost to war."

Larson voted against the Iraq War and has been pushing to repeal the 2001 AUMF for years, including during President Obama's tenure. The AUMF has been used over 41 times in 19 different countries due to overly broad language.
