Larson, Neal, Pascrell, Davis Demand Social Security Administration Immediately Send Stimulus Payment Information to IRS

March 24, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Social Security Subcommittee Chairman John B. Larson (D-CT), House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA), Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ), and Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Chairman Danny K. Davis (D-IL) wrote to Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner Andrew Saul on behalf of the nearly 30 million Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries who are still awaiting their economic impact payments (EIPs). Because SSA has inexplicably not sent the necessary payment files to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), tens of millions of beneficiaries have yet to receive their desperately needed EIPs.

"We are aware that the IRS asked SSA to start sending payment files two weeks before the American Rescue Plan became law on March 11, 2021," wrote the Chairmen. "As of today, SSA still has not provided the IRS with the payment files that are needed to issue EIPs to these struggling Americans. We demand that you immediately provide the IRS this information by tomorrow, March 25, 2021."

The Chairmen concluded their letter by expressing sincere concern for those in immediate need of financial relief.
