Larson Introduces Bill to Cut Off All Funding for Illegal Iran War

July 28, 2026

East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced the No Funds for Illegal Wars Act, a bill he introducedto cut off all funding for Trump’s illegal war in Iran and prohibit the use of any federal funds for military conflicts not explicitly authorized by Congress, and in violation of the War Powers Act.

“Taxpayer dollars should be used to support the American people, not fund President Trump’s illegal foreign wars,” said Larson. “As more of our servicemembers are killed in Iran, and energy prices continue to skyrocket here at home, Congress cannot sit on its hands. We have voted to end this illegal war not once, but twice—and we need to enforce the law. My bill will immediately cut off all funding for this costly conflict, and block Donald Trump or any future president from waging war without explicit approval from Congress, as both the Constitution and War Powers Act require.”

After nearly five months, President Trump continues to wage an illegal war against Iran, in direct violation of Article I of the United States Constitution, and against the will of the United States Congress—which passed legislation in both chambers of Congress ordering the President to cease hostilities.

Larson’s No Funds for Illegal Wars Act would prohibit the use of any federal funding for military hostilities not explicitly authorized by Congress and in violation of the War Powers Act. Last week, Larson also filed a resolution with Rep. Gregory Meeks (NY-05), compelling the House of Representatives to file a lawsuit against President Donald J. Trump to enforce the War Powers Resolution in court.
