Larson, Horsford, Warren Introduce Bill to Provide Economic Boost for Seniors, Veterans, and Disabled Workers During Cost-of-Living Crisis
Washington, D.C. - Today, House Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) announced the introduction of the Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Actwith Rep. Steven Horsford (NV-04) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
Their bill comes after seniors were hit with announcements that monthly Medicare Part B premiums will rise by nearly ten percent next year, and that Social Security recipients would receive a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), amounting to just $56 per month. Larson, Horsford, and Warren’s plan would provide a $200/month emergency increase to Social Security checks until July 2026.
“Americans are getting squeezed by high prices everywhere they look, and failed Trump policies are only driving up costs even more,” said Larson. “Social Security beneficiaries on fixed incomes are suffering the most from this cost-of-living crisis. While this year’s COLA was welcome news for seniors trying to make ends meet, it will not be enough. I am glad to join my colleagues, Congressman Steven Horsford and Senator Elizabeth Warren, to help out our seniors, veterans, and disabled workers, with a little bit more breathing room to pay the bills. Democrats will continue to fight to strengthen Social Security for everyone and lower costs for families.”
“Nevadans who work hard, pay taxes, and play by the rules are facing hard economic times through no fault of their own,” said Horsford. “Trump’s tariffs and inflation are driving this downturn, but my constituents and everyday Americans are the ones paying for it. People across the country need relief, and that’s exactly what the bill that Congressman Larson, Senator Warren and I are introducing will do. For fixed income seniors and veterans struggling to make ends meet, an additional $200 a month can be the boost that prevents someone from rationing their medication or going without food.”
“Donald Trump’s chaotic tariffs are pushing up costs on just about everything, and Americans need relief,” said Warren. “Our new bill will provide just that by sending American seniors on Social Security an extra $200 a month. Democrats will keep fighting to lower costs for Americans.”
The Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act would provide critical relief to Americans living on a fixed income by:
Providing a $200 per month emergency increase to Social Security checks until July 2026.
Supporting all Title II Social Security beneficiaries, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries, Railroad Retirement beneficiaries, veteran disability compensation, and veteran pension benefit annuitants.
