Washington, DC - Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01),Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement inresponse to the announcement of President Barack Obama's nomination of JudgeSonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
"In making his firstnomination to the Supreme Court, President Obama has once again broken historicbarriers and proved to young Americans that no matter their background, or thechallenges they face, they can achieve their dreams. Judge Sotomayor is abrilliant legal thinker. She will bring to the Supreme Court thequalifications and experiences of a successful career on the bench and a deep,common sense understanding of how judicial decisions impact real people'slives. Her upbringing in a Bronx, NY public housing project gives her a uniqueview of the issues this country faces and the possibilities for those whobelieve in the American dream. I urge the Senate to take up hernomination swiftly."
