Larson Highlights Need to Create Paid Family & Medical Leave Plan

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) condemned a Republican bill that would cut Social Security benefits to provide insufficient parental leave and highlighted the Democratic solution, Rep. Rosa DeLauro's (CT-03) FAMILY Act. Larson's remarks can be found here.
"Today's hearing made it clear, the FAMILY Act would provide Paid Family and Medical Leave to all Americans, without harming their future financial security. The Republican plan would cut Social Security benefits in exchange for paid leave. This will only further exacerbate the gender and racial pay gaps and disparities, instead of evening the playing field for everyone, like the FAMILY Act would.
"I'm proud that Connecticut has been a leader on this important issue. As Connecticut's Senate Pro Temp, I authored the nation's first family and medical leave bill. Senator Chris Dodd led the effort on the national level. Last year, Connecticut enacted one of the nation's most comprehensive paid family and medical leave laws and Rep. Rosa DeLauro is leading the effort here in Congress. It's time we pass the FAMILY Act!"
