Larson Cosponsors Bipartisan War Powers Resolution to Withdraw Forces from Venezuela

January 9, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined Reps. Jim McGovern (MA-02), Thomas Massie (KY-04), and more than 50 of his colleagues to cosponsor H.Con.Res. 68, a war powers resolution to withdraw U.S. forces from Venezuela.

“Donald Trump confirmed his plans for Americans to run Venezuela for years. He is dragging us into another foreign occupation with no clear exit plan or strategy,” said Larson. “We cannot put our troops at risk to help this president enrich his Big Oil friends. I joined my colleagues to support this war powers resolution to stop Donald Trump’s unauthorized operations in Venezuela. I urge more Republicans to come together with us to end this madness. The American people need relief from skyrocketing health care premiums, not another forever war.”

Larson is also cosponsoring three other war powers resolutions, H.J.Res. 126, H.Con.Res. 51, and H.Con.Res. 61, in response to the Trump Administration's unilateral strikes targeting boats off the coast of Venezuela. In December, he voted for two resolutions to end the unauthorized strikes and hostilities against Venezuela. He also called for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign following reports that he gave an illegal order resulting in a second strike to kill survivors of an attack on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea.
