Larson Condemns SCOTUS Strike Down of Eviction Moratorium
Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Supreme Court rejected President Biden’s moratorium on evictions.
“The Supreme Court’s shadow docket decision to strike down the CDC’s eviction moratorium is not only disappointing but also dangerous during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Larson. “With the Delta variant spreading rapidly and COVID hospitalizations rising amongst the unvaccinated, this pandemic is clearly far from over.”
“The American Rescue plan, which I was proud to support, funds critical emergency rental assistance, but that money is still being distributed. I supported President Biden’s decision to extend the moratorium, but now with this decision from the Supreme Court, Congress must act,” Larson continued. “This time has been trying for both renters and landlords alike, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to find a solution.”
Congressman Larson is a cosponsor of Rep. Maxine Waters’ legislation to extend the CDC’s eviction moratorium through the end of this year.
