Larson Condemns Musk-Trump's Mass Firing of VA Workers

February 14, 2025

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs abruptly purged 1,000 workers, a more than $98 million cut to care and services at the VA.

“The Administration’s abrupt firing of VA workers will come at a significant cost to our nation’s veterans, who will face longer wait times for benefits and more barriers to access the care they need,” said Larson. “Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s true agenda is becoming clearer to the American people by the day, now casting veterans and their needs aside to finance massive tax breaks for the wealthy. It is simply unconscionable to tell America’s veterans who put their lives on the line for our freedoms that they can do with less so billionaires can get a tax cut. Musk, Trump, and their billionaire friends have no business taking away the benefits and care our veterans have earned and deserve.”

Last night, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs sent out a press release celebrating the mass-firing of 1,000 workers in the name of Musk-Trump's ‘DOGE’ agenda. Their purge included service-connected disabled veterans, military spouses, and medical researchers. House Democrats are demanding a detailed explanation from VA Secretary Doug Collins on how these cuts will affect veterans’ services and benefits.
