Larson Condemns Musk-Trump Attacks on Social Security

February 24, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) condemned President Trump’s remarks calling Social Security a ‘scam,’ where he amplified Elon Musk’s false claims that 150-year-olds are receiving Social Security benefits.

“Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, is defrauding you with his embellishments to advance Trump’s plans for more tax cuts for billionaires,” said Larson. “The deceit here is gaining access to the Social Security database and Americans’ sensitive information to perpetuate ‘the Big Lie’ that people as old as 150 are receiving benefits. The truth is...they are not! President Trump and Elon Musk, however, never let truth get in the way of the steep tax cut they are after. The real frauds here are Trump and Musk and their blatant attempt to shake the nation’s confidence in Social Security, all so they can justify the slashing of your retirement benefits to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Democrats will continue to stand with working people across this nation united in any attempt to cut your hard-earned benefits.”

On Saturday, President Trump amplified Elon Musk’s claims that 150-year-olds are receiving Social Security at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). These claims have been repeatedly disproven, including by Musk-Trump's hand-picked Acting Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner, Leland Dudek.

Ranking Member Larson has requested an immediate Social Security Subcommittee hearing to investigate ‘DOGE’ activities at SSA and the potential impact on Social Security beneficiaries.
