Larson Calls for Rioters to be Prosecuted to the Fullest Extent of Law

January 7, 2021

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement the day after the Capitol was breached by Trump supporters.

"After a mob of the President's supporters stormed the United States Capitol, four were killed, and many of these people simply left the grounds. Now that the initial chaos has broken, it is clear there must be a thorough investigation to find those who participated in this incursion, prompted by President Trump, and ravaged the Capitol building. They must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"There have been 68 arrests of those who participated in yesterday's mob. Most of those arrests are for breaking the 6pm curfew installed by the Mayor of D.C. This past summer, we watched as thousands of people joined together to protest racial injustice and faced brutality and mass arrests at the hands of the police. America is watching and sees the glaring contrast in the militant response to those protesting racial injustices and those who were allowed to push their way right into the Capitol.

"As we learn more about what happened yesterday, we know many Capitol Police officers and Capitol staff acted heroically, while others' actions raised concerns. We must thoroughly investigate how this breach occurred and what changes we need to make ensure it doesn't happen again."
