Larson Calls for Homeland Security Secretary Noem to Resign, Will Introduce Bill Blocking ICE Activities Without State Coordination
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement calling for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign following the violence in Minneapolis yesterday.
“This was a direct result of authoritarianism,” said Larson. “This was not an accident. There is blood on the hands of this Administration, the ICE agents involved in the execution of an American citizen, and every senior official in the Trump regime who has knowingly allowed these dangerous practices to continue.
“For months, I and others have warned that flooding our communities with armed ICE agents, masked, carrying military-grade weapons, operating without oversight and without coordination with local law enforcement, would end in bloodshed. This was never a question of if. It was always a question of when. That moment has arrived,” Larson continued.
“Renee Nicole Good is dead. Three children have lost their mother. And responsibility does not end at the scene. It runs directly up the chain of command,” Larson continued.
“This failure must be addressed. Kristi Noem must resign immediately after lying to the American people and claiming Renee was a domestic terrorist with no evidence or investigation. As Secretary of Homeland Security, she is responsible for overseeing ICE. Her continued leadership is incompatible with public safety, constitutional governance, and basic human decency,” Larson continued.
“There must also be a full, independent investigation into this killing, including the actions of the agents who were involved, the command decisions that authorized these operations, and the policymakers who enabled this culture of lawlessness,” Larson continued.
“Until these tactics are stopped, more lives will be lost,” Larson concluded. “I will introduce legislation allowing states to prevent ICE from operating in their borders without full coordination with state and local law enforcement agencies. Enough is enough.”
