Larson Blasts Trump-Musk Dismantling of Services for Seniors and Disabled Americans

March 27, 2025

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement blasting the Trump Administration’s decision to cut the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) workforce by 25% and dismantle the Administration for Community Living, which manages services for seniors and disabled Americans, like Meals on Wheels.

“Along with their efforts to gut the Social Security Administration, these drastic cuts will make it harder for seniors and disabled Americans to get the support they need to stay in their homes and access care as they age,” said Larson. “Dismantling senior services will do nothing to make our government more efficient or improve public health. Trump-Musk's ‘DOGE’ has already created chaos at Social Security, where wait times have skyrocketed, the website has crashed numerous times, and field and hearing offices are being closed. Now, they are trying to sow doubts at HHS so they can privatize Medicare and defund services like Meals on Wheels to pay for the President’s tax breaks for the wealthiest one percent. Elon Musk and Secretary Kennedy need to come before Congress, under oath, so the American people can hear the truth about their real agenda. It’s past time for our Republican colleagues to join our demands for answers from this unaccountable Administration.”
