Larson Blasts President Trump’s Attempt to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on President Trump’s attempt to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. No president has ever fired a Federal Reserve Governor before, something the Supreme Court has signaled would be illegal. 

“Donald Trump’s failed economic policies have created a cost-of-living crisis for working families,” said Larson. “Now he is attempting to take control of the Fed in an illegal power grab that undermines the independence of our central bank. With inflation on the rise, a dollar on the decline, and reckless tariffs driving up costs on consumers, we cannot afford to follow the President down yet another path of economic instability. The Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the entire Congress must stand together with Lisa Cook against her unjust firing and this thinly veiled attempt to weaponize our banking system.”
