Larson Blasts Outrageous Trump Attack on Democratic Lawmakers
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after President Trump called for the arrest and prosecution of Democratic Members of the House and Senate who served our country in the military and Intelligence community, suggesting their actions should be “punishable by death.”
“I stand with my colleagues Jason Crow, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan, and Chris Deluzio, and Senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly,” said Larson. “No one should be arrested for exercising their freedom of speech. They are American heroes for their distinguished records of service and continue to be heroes in the eyes of the American people for bravely standing up to Donald Trump as he attacks them for speaking out. If I know my colleagues, they will never stop fighting for our Constitution, which they have sworn a lifelong oath to protect, not only as military servicemembers and national security professionals, but as elected lawmakers. The American people have seen these games from Trump before. They are getting wise to his distasteful distractions designed to divert from his failed policies and lackluster performance in the polls. My brave colleagues will not be intimidated by his outrageous threats, and neither will the American people. We will continue to stand up to Trump and fight to protect our Constitution and uphold the values we hold dear.”
Today’s unfounded attacks are part of an increasingly dangerous pattern of behavior from President Donald Trump, who has continued to use escalatory rhetoric to target political opponents, including Rep. Larson. After Larson fought back and spoke out against ICE’s abusive tactics in Newington, Connecticut, Larson was named to a ‘watch list’ by Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, alongside other Congressional leaders including Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08).
