Washington, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman John B. Larson (CT-01) applauded the news that the Department of Justice and the Social Security Administration dropped their appeals of two class-action lawsuits regarding the right to survivor benefits for same-sex couples.
"Love is love. Same-sex couples who couldn't legally marry before their partner's death should not be prevented from obtaining Social Security survivor benefits. I applaud the Biden Administration and Acting Social Security Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi for dropping this Trump-era appeal, and I congratulate Lambda Legal for this significant win for the LGBTQ community," said Larson.
