Larson applauds U.S. Air Force decision to award the KC-X contract to Boeing

February 24, 2011

Hartford, CT – U.S. Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement applauding the U.S. Air Force decision to award the KC-X Airborne Tanker contract to Boeing:

"The U.S. Air Force made the right decision today and American manufacturers and our workforce are the beneficiaries.

"The Boeing tanker, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines, is more cost efficient to own and operate and will serve our fighting men and women for decades. The Obama Administration has responded to the call of Make It In America and this will help keep critical manufacturing jobs and skills here in the U.S. instead of sending them to Europe.

"With today's decision, local companies like Pratt & Whitney, Eaton, Hamilton Sunstrand, Microtech, Roller Bearing Co., and United Tool & Die can power not just our next generation tanker, but also Connecticut's economy of the future. This means that Boeing tankers with two Pratt & Whitney engines each will be made in the U.S. for the next 20 years."
