Larson Applauds Court Decision to Block ‘DOGE’ Access to Social Security Data

East Hartford, CT – Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after a federal judge blocked Elon Musk's ‘DOGE’ from accessing Social Security beneficiaries’ information.
“Judge Hollander made the right decision today,” said Larson. “There is no reason that unelected billionaire Elon Musk and his ‘DOGE’ cronies should have access to sensitive information that includes Social Security numbers, income history, and medical records. The former Acting Social Security Administration Commissioner stepped down rather than hand over this information because she knew they were up to no good. I want to commend the leaders of AFSCME, the Alliance for Retired Americans, and the AFT for standing up and filing this suit to protect Americans’ privacy. While today is an important step forward in protecting Americans’ data, we cannot take our eye off the ball. Trump and Musk have their sights set on privatizing Social Security. Elon Musk must come before the Ways and Means Committee and the American people to answer questions about what he and Donald Trump intend to do. He is not above the law. We must continue to fight to protect Americans’ hard-earned benefits from their devastating cuts and ensure millions of Americans continue to receive the benefits they rely on to make ends meet.”
Rep. Larson introduced the Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act to block ‘DOGE’s’ access to sensitive beneficiary data and strengthen oversight and civil penalties for any privacy and disclosure violations of Social Security beneficiaries’ personal information.
