Larson Applauds Bipartisan Support for Northern Ireland

December 4, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives unanimously approved H. Res. 585, Reaffirming support for the Good Friday Agreement and other agreements to ensure a lasting peace in Northern Ireland. Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) is a cosponsor of the legislation and serves as a member on the Friends of Ireland caucus.

"Over 20 years ago, the Good Friday Agreement ended decades of horrific violence. This agreement has kept the peace in Ireland and it is imperative that it stays in place. Earlier this year, I joined Speaker Pelosi, Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal, Rep. Joe Courtney, and others on a Congressional visit to Ireland and the United Kingdom. One thing we made clear during our visit was that whatever happens with Brexit, the Good Friday Agreement cannot be compromised," said Larson. "Yesterday's vote shows that the House of Representatives will not stand for anything less than that."

After their visit to Ireland, Reps. John B. Larson and Joe Courtney wrote an op-ed that appeared in the Hartford Courant titled Why does Brexit matter to Connecticut? Ireland.
