U.S. Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) sent a letter to the art director at each high school in the First Congressional District encouraging their students to participate in the competition. He attended the announcement of the winners on Friday, May 19, at the East Hartford Cultural Center. Twenty-one students entered the contest.

"Diane Rainha is clearly a talented young lady with a bright future ahead of her. I admire the creativity and determination that she has shown. Her artwork will be a welcome addition to my District office," said Larson.

More than 650,000 high school students in 4,500 local contests have participated in the contest, which has been held every year since 1982. Last year, a total of 300 Members of Congress participated in the event.
