LARSON ANNOUNCES HUD GRANT FOR EAST HARTFORDEAST HARTFORD - U.S. Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) today announced that the Town of East Hartford has been awarded a grant of $663,000 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The money is a Community Development Block Grant that will fund a yearlong action plan for housing and community development needs in East Hartford. The larger plan stresses housing rehabilitation, improvements to community facilities, and support services for the homeless. The grant was awarded after a previous assessment of East Hartford housing and community needs.

"The grant will be a great help in the continuing effort to push forward with urban and community renewal in East Hartford," said Larson. "This funding from HUD tackles some of the most serious problems that effect the town and people's lives every day such as improvements to facilities and existing housing, as well as services for those who need it most."

The grant will also cover youth and literacy programs, services for the elderly, as well as substance abuse programs in East Hartford.
