Larson Announces $265K Federal Grant to Manchester Fire Department
Manchester, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced that the Manchester Fire Department will be receiving a $265,841 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant will allow the Manchester Fire Department to replace its aging firefighter breathing apparatus
"Our firefighters play a critical role every day in protecting our communities. I am proud to have helped secure funding for the Manchester Fire Department that will improve their services. Today's grant will allow them to replace their aging firefighter breathing apparatus that provides fire crews with fresh air while firefighting. We have an obligation to ensure that our firefighters are equipped with the necessary resources to perform their jobs safely and effectively. I am proud to advocate for our first responders and the programs that support them. I congratulate Mayor Moran, Chief Billings and the Town of Manchester for receiving this award," said Larson.
"Funding for the Department of Homeland Security which administers the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program came under extreme pressure this year. Our Washington representatives rose to the challenge and fought to maintain funding for first responders and the Assistance to Firefighters program. Once again they have demonstrated their commitment to support first responders and ensure the safety of our communities. We are truly grateful to the efforts of Congressman John Larson, Senator Richard Blumenthal and Senator Chris Murphy to assure funding for this vital program." said Fire Chief David Billings.
The AFG program was created to protect the public and first responders from fire and related hazards.
