Larson and House Democrats Reintroduce Bill to Restore Reproductive Rights Nationwide

June 24, 2025

Washington, D.C. - Today, on the third anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined his Democratic colleagues to introduce the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation restoring access to safe and legal abortion nationwide.

“Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, 19 states have enacted abortion bans that put women at risk, and some have even died,” said Larson. “House Republicans have already introduced a national abortion ban in Congress and passed a bill to block Americans from purchasing plans covering abortion care on state health care exchanges. We must act at the federal level to ensure every woman in every state can access the reproductive care they need. Today, I joined my Democratic colleagues to reintroduce our bill restoring the protections Roe guaranteed nationwide. Democrats will not stop fighting to ensure reproductive freedom for all because we trust women, not politicians, to make their own health care decisions.”

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, nineteen states have enacted abortion bans that remain in effect, criminalizing reproductive health care services for millions of women. In 1990, when Larson served as State Senate President pro tempore, Connecticut became the first state to enshrine the right to safe and legal abortion into law. The Women’s Health Protection Act would restore the nationwide right to abortion care that Roe guaranteed.
