Ahead of Social Security Budget Hearing, Larson & Davis Applaud Commissioner O’Malley for Quick Action to Protect Social Security Beneficiaries

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Committee Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) and Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Ranking Member Danny K. Davis (IL-07) applauded Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley for his quick action to safeguard seniors and other Social Security Administration beneficiaries after the leaders raised concerns over troubling reports of overpayments.
“Commissioner O’Malley has wasted no time picking up the work of the people as leader of the Social Security Administration, and this announcement is further proof that the Biden Administration is committed to getting the job done for the American people,” said Larson and Davis. “Late last year, we raised concerns about the impact of Social Security overpayment collections on seniors and people with disabilities, and Commissioner O’Malley approached the challenge with sensibility and compassion, all while putting the needs of beneficiaries first.
“This progress comes as a majority of House Republicans double their unconscionable cuts to Social Security and Medicare, and put beneficiaries’ earned benefits on the line. We thank the Commissioner for his immediate action, and look forward to discussing further this afternoon.”
