Which Connecticut Democrats are attending the State of the Union address?

February 24, 2026

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Four members of Connecticut’s all-Democratic congressional delegation will join some of their colleagues in skipping the president’s State of the Union address Tuesday evening.

Sen. Chris Murphy, Rep. John Larson and Rep. Jim Himes will all attend a Democratic-aligned event intended as counterprogramming to the president’s speech.

“People need to know that there’s an alternative and that the rule of law and the constitution still matter,” Larson said.

Though he won’t be in the room for the speech, Larson said he’s giving his guest ticket — members are typically allotted one — to a Cuban-born Bristol man who is struggling to gain his U.S. citizenship after the Trump administration halted immigration applications from 19 countries, including Cuba.

Members who plan to attend the address will also send a message with their choice of guests. Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Eastern Connecticut, invited a woman whose health insurance premiums rose after the expiration of enhanced federal subsidies.

“Her premiums have gone up 300% because of his refusal to take up the bipartisan bill we passed in the House that would extend tax credit,” Courtney said, pinning blame for the expiration on the president.

Blumenthal said he will bring Nicole Russo, the CEO of a Connecticut electronics manufacturer, to illustrate the impacts of the president’s tariffs on local businesses.

DeLauro will attend the speech with her husband, a prominent Democratic party pollster.

The State of the Union begins at 9 p.m. You can watch it on-air on News 8 or on the News 8 streaming app.
