Larson Stands Against Iranian Warfare
Wednesday, Rep. John B. Larson voted for a war powers resolution to end what he and fellow Democrats term "Trump's illegal war in Iran". Four Republicans voted with Democrats.
The rebuke of the President's use of military force is largely symbolic however it marked the first time since 2020 that the House of Representatives passed a war powers resolution. Larson, who has previously filed articles of impeachment against President Trump and U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for waging war in Iran, linked the military action ordered by the President to the high cost of gasoline.
"Trump's illegal war in Iran is leading to skyrocketing gas prices, squeezing families' wallets and making it more difficult for them to make ends meet," stated Larson. "President Trump may view the Constitution as a suggestion, but that does not change the facts, nor does it change the responsibility of the Congress to keep him in check. By refusing to come before us for approval to wage war in Iran, as he is required to under the War Powers Act, he has failed his oath of office. I was glad to see a handful of my Republican colleagues finally join Democrats to stand up. This president is not fit for office—his illegal war must come to an end. We cannot stand by and let our troops become entangled in another forever war in the Middle East."
Last month, Larson slammed his fellow Congressional Republicans for pulling the war powers resolution from the House floor. Larson voted three times this year to withdraw forces from Iran.
